Our handcrafted restorations are undertaken with old school methods, in keeping with the original manufacturing process.

We take the time to uncover the history of your piece, often finding gems of yesteryear along the way.

Restoring furniture is about more than fixing a table leg.

It’s about restoring history from a corner of the collective memory.

Eadie

Named for her original owner, at one time she was the most stylish of her kind, with beautifully coloured glass, sharp angles and gentle curves.  She came to us for a bit of nip and tuck and you can follow her restoration project on our social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram.  These pictures show the before and after.

Pedro

St Peter’s Anglican Church was built in 1899 and in 1978 underwent a refurbishment.  As part of that refurbishment, the original church was demolished.  We were lucky enough to source an original St Peter’s Pew which had been privately owned since the late 70’s and were keen to give it a new lease on life.  Follow the restoration project on our social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram.  This picture is of the completed restoration, ensconced in the home of a happy client.

Ketut & Rhonda

Ketut followed Rhonda after her Balinese holiday but found the relationship floundering with Ketut left to wither unprotected from the elements on a sunny deck.
Using traditional methods, Ketut was completely dissembled, joints rebuilt and strengthened with plug replacement saw Ketut looking like he had spent six weeks at a health gym.
Tung Oil treatment and finished with polyurethane, he will now be the star attraction of Rhonda’s deck once more.

Mary

Mary has had a long life and was feeling a bit weary.  She had been in a client’s  family for decades and has seen quite a few transformations in that time.
Originally built by the client’s grandfather, it was destined for the tip when rescued and brought to The Art of Hammer and Nails.
It was a pleasure to have Mary come out from under her house to having a place of pride in the family home.

Jimmy

Jimmy has seen multiple generations of one family.

He has a great history, starting with a family of 12 many, many years ago and has seen all aspects of family life, from ice cream with the kiddies, being used as an ironing board to having the kiddies stand on him while mum pinned and hemmed.
Jimmy didn’t mind though, because he knew he was at the heart of the family, building memories.

When the family of 12 had more family, they would still all gather around Jimmy, often not moving further into the house.
He even served as an impromptu medic table when a young miss had to be laid out to remove 63 wasp stings.

Well, that young miss has her own family these days and brought Jimmy to us for refurbishment. At client’s request we even kept the iron scorch mark left as a reminder of her mum.

Jimmy, you’re set to go for another generation.

Luke & John

Two Church Pews, long admired by their current owner, were recently given a new lease of life with a restoration.

From a previous life bringing together people in church to their new life, bringing people together for meals – we are sure they will continue to provide services for many more years to come.
Although restored we have kept the glimpses into the past with the original kneeler inserts kept intact as well as the original cruxifix on the side of the pew.
